When Clothes Catch Fire was created by Rendani Mulovhedzi
If clothes catch fire they can spread very quickly, engulfing the victim in flames. Certain types of clothing, especially synthetic fabrics, may melt and stick to skin.
The best way to reduce injury from the flames is to extinguish the burning fabric as quickly as possible. STOP, DROP, and ROLL” is used when clothing catches fire. It is of importance to minimize a burn injury when your clothes catch fire.
If your clothes catch fire:
- Don't run or wave your arms, stop where you are.
- Drop to the ground quickly– lay flat with your legs out straight and cover your eyes and mouth with your hands.
- Roll over and over and back and forth until the flames are out.
- The one thing you should never do is run.
Once the fire is out, you must treat a burn injury. Cool a burn with water, and seek medical advice
