OSHA Probes Blue Ash Fire – Cincinnati Enquirer

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating an accident Tuesday at a metal finishing company that severely burned an employee and left him fighting for his life at University Hospital.

A medical helicopter was called to the 11167 Deerfield Road plant about 11:19 a.m. Tuesday after the man was burned when a cleaning solution containing acetone splashed on him and a flash fire ignited his clothes, fire officials said.

Blue Ash Fire Chief Rick Brown indicated the man spilled the flammable chemical on themselves and on the floor. When they went to disperse it, they thought the best way to do that was to spread it around. When they did that, it sparked from a hot water heater and totally engulfed the worker in flames and had a little bit of flames throughout the building. The employee's name has not been released.

What could have prevented this injury?? Wait for responses and discuss.
